Quote: "BENEATHA: It is my buisness-where is he going to live, on the roof?" (Q) Why is Beneatha so concerned? (C) I can relate to this because whenever my cousins come to visit, I always question where they are going to sleep. (P) I think Ruth will second guess having the baby or not. (CL) Beneatha is so concerned because the family already lives in a small house so another person added will just make it tighter. Also it is still unclear if Ruth is keeping the baby or not. (R) at this time period money is a hard thing to get so for someone to have a baby the should be financially stable. However Ruth is living off her mother's money. (E) The author is trying to state that, if Ruth is considering a baby she should make an effort to become more independent.
Quote:Mama-" It's dangerous, son." Pg 73 (E) The author is trying to show the reader that since this small family is in a white neighborhood then it will be a mistake to go out to find peace. In this age blacks are resented by the majority of whites and often physically and mentally abused because of their race and skin color. If Walter wants to find peace he needs to manage his anger with his wife and have a special conversation with her to settle the dispute.
Quote: Ruth- "Oh,let him go on out and drink himself to death! He makes me sick to my stomach" Pg 71 (C) This can be referred to everyday life in a marriage. There is a stereotype that men leave their house after a disagreement to drink alcohol in a local bar to clear the mind from stress. t
Lisbeth - Oh no not ugly ( more slowly, apologetically) But it's so hard to manage when it's well - raw .
(C) I can relate to this because I have natural hair and sometimes it's very hard to manage. That's why I got a relaxer a couple years ago just like her but I came back to natural hair
"(The boy hushes abruptly. They are both quiet and tense for several seconds... Travis jabs his spoon into his cereal bowl viciously, and rests his head in anger upon his fists)"
(C) I could connect because sometimes when my mom is frustrated & I constantly ask her for something she gets annoyed and I get upset because she won't listen to what I have to say. Just like in the book: Travis tried to tell his mom different ways of how to earn the fifty-cents but she didn't want to hear it- and that's why Travis was a little upset. SHAMIYAH FRANKLIN
George: "Oh, dear, dear, dear! Here we go! A lecture on the African past! On our Great West African Heritage! In one second we will hear all about the great Ashanti empires th; e great Songhay civilizations; and the great sculptur Benin" pg 81 (C) I can relate this to my History lectures in school as most of the time it becomes boring and irritating when you are lectured about past and irrelevant periods or events that are less likely for the human world to re-encounter. It doesn't help you in the future or in a part of your daily lives. I believe we should learn on our own without being pestered by the teacher for learning the material.
Walter: "They look as funny as them black knee socks Beneatha wears out of here all the time.Style, hell. She looks like she got burnt legs or something" pg 83 (E) Walter's over-consumption of beer has made more mean and nasty in his insults. He seems to not know how disgraceful his words are towards his loving companions. Walter's in a phase where his mind turns evil and ugly which makes people think of him as a miserable and terrible being.
The quote set fire to this building!Mama, where did Ruth go? is showing that Beneatha is worried about Ruth and wants to know where did she go.I can relate to this quote because one time I skipped class and everybody went searching for me but I was no where to be found until I showed up later that day.I say this to show that the same way people were concerned sbout me was the same way people were concerned about Ruth.
Lisbeth - Act 2 scene one Quote- Ruth : What kind of dance is that ? (C) - I can relate to this quote because my little brother is always doing some new dance . He's always dancing and sometimes he be showing my new dance moves. The other day when he came home from school and he was listening to music and doing some weird dance so I asked him " what kind of dance is that " and he showed me and stuff . I was surprised because I'm older and I should know these things it should be the other way around.
Beneatha:"Mama, if there are two things we, as a people, have got to overcome, one is the KLu Klux Klan- and the other is Mrs. Johnson." pg 104 (E) Beneatha and her fellow blacks are living in an era where they must rise above discrimination, intimidation, and racial violence which are all primarily done by the KKK. The KKK is a racist group that is determined to undermine and destroy black's character and make them paralyzed in their society in terms of making them unable to vote and taking part in society as officials or a member a part of the government.
